Can I Get Solar Panels For My Cabin?

If you’ve already converted your home to a solar energy system then you’ve seen how much money it can save you. Hopefully, you’ve had it long enough to see your power bill arrive with a nice credit on it instead of a balance owed. Now you’re starting to wonder if there are other parts of your life that can be made better with solar energy. There are several! One of them will be life-changing if you like the outdoors.

Solar Gives Independence

If you’re into hunting, fishing, hiking, or just getting away from suburban or city life every now and then, you may have thought about buying a cabin in the woods. Maybe you’ve already built one or you’ve decided to take some of the savings that your solar energy system has given you and invest in one. Either way, there are a couple of ways that you can use solar energy to power your cabin and make the maintenance cost of having a “home away from home” more affordable.

Converting a small cabin to solar is very much the same as when you converted your home. However, this building is probably much smaller and won’t need to generate near the same amount of energy. You can also plan to do a few things like keeping a mini-fridge instead of a full-sized one, using a propane stove to cook, and heating the cabin with a fireplace and then you’ll find that the power created by your system will go a lot further.

Night Moves

You also have to decide if you want to have electricity at night. If you’re in the woods you are most likely not going to be connected to the grid the way you are at home. So, once the sun sets you’ll either have to light the place with candles and lanterns or you can invest in solar batteries. Some of the excess energy created by your solar panels during the day will charge your batteries and then you’ll draw from them at night.

With a cabin powered by solar energy, you can create a nice, cozy place to get away from it all. You’ll probably find yourself heading there more weekends than you thought you would, even if you don’t plan on doing anything but enjoying the quiet atmosphere with your loved ones.

And the first step toward getting there is the same step you took toward converting your home…calling us! We’ll design a solar system for your cabin that will serve all your needs.
