When your solar energy system is installed it will be connected to the electrical grid in your neighborhood. Your solar panels will create electricity that will power your house and the excess will be fed back into the grid. The power company will use this surplus of energy for the homes of your neighbors and the other buildings in your city. When they bill you for the month they will factor in the power that they got from you and they will add a credit to your account. More often than not you will receive a bill that has a negative balance.
Negative Power Bill?
There will be times when you will still use electricity from the power company. You won’t get any solar power at night and your output will be greatly reduced on cloudy days. At those times the power company will draw from your credits and you’ll add back to them the next day. The goal is for your power bill to stay in the negative more often than not and to have a net-zero balance over the course of a year.
